Quick Answer
What is the Leica Geosystems DD130?
The Leica Detect DD130 (60Hz) is a professional electromagnetic buried utility locator manufactured by Leica Geosystems that detects energized cables, metallic pipes, and services through four detection modes including current measurement and long-distance tracing. It is compatible with the DA175 signal transmitter for active locating and depth estimation on dig-safe and 811 compliance projects.
What contractors use this accessories for
811 Dig-Safe Compliance and Locate Marking
Utility locating contractors use the DD130 to respond to one-call requests and mark buried utilities before excavation. The four detection modes and long-distance tracing capability enable comprehensive utility identification required by 811 regulations and dig-safe programs.
Active Line Tracing with DA175 Transmitter
When paired with the DA175 signal generator, crews actively trace specific utility lines and estimate burial depth for precise marking. This active locating method isolates target utilities in congested subsurface environments where multiple services overlap.
Utility Strike Prevention on Excavation Projects
Civil engineers and general contractors use passive detection to scan work areas before breaking ground on grading, trenching, and HDD operations. Early identification of buried infrastructure prevents costly strikes, project shutdowns, and personnel injuries.
Telecom and Gas Service Line Identification
Telecom installers and gas contractors locate fiber, copper, and service lines during new installations and maintenance work. The DD130's current measurement mode specifically identifies energized electrical services that pose strike hazards.
Municipal Utility Mapping and Infrastructure Assessment
Municipalities deploy the DD130 for subsurface utility engineering (SUE) projects, utility conflict resolution, and underground asset mapping. The four detection modes provide comprehensive data for utility network documentation and right-of-way planning.
Product Description
Key Features
6 Detection Modes
Auto, Power, Radio, 8kHz, 33kHz, 512Hz, and 640Hz. Two exclusive low-frequency modes for tracing longer cable runs and complex utility networks.
Extended Sonde Depth — 33ft
Sonde depth detection from 0.3m to 9.99m (1ft to 33ft). Three times deeper than the DD120 for deep drain, sewer, and duct tracing.
Current Measurement (mA)
Displays the milliamp current flowing through the located service in real time — confirming signal strength and cable identification on the spot.
Hazard Zone Indicator
Visual alert warns the operator when the locator detects a buried utility in close proximity — before you dig.
15-Hour Battery Life
6× AA alkaline batteries deliver a full day of continuous operation. Standard batteries available anywhere on the job site.
IP54 Weatherproof
Protected against dust ingress and water splashes — designed and tested for demanding construction job site conditions.
What's In The Box
Both configurations include the same DD130 locator — the difference is the accessories.

Device Only — What You Need to Know
The DD130 Device Only is the locator unit alone. It works as a standalone tool for passive detection — picking up signals from live, energized power cables and metallic utilities already carrying current (Power mode, 60Hz) or a signal (Radio mode). No additional equipment is required for this use.
For full utility locating capability — especially the DD130's extended active-tracing frequencies (512Hz, 640Hz) and 33ft sonde depth — you will also need:
- DA175 Signal Transmitter (Art. 949370) — Required for depth estimation, tracing dead/de-energized cables, and active route tracing at 8kHz, 33kHz, 512Hz, or 640Hz. Included in the Depth Package.
- Midi Sonde 8/33kHz (Art. 850289) — Required to locate non-metallic and PVC pipes, drains, and sewers. The DD130's extended sonde depth (up to 33ft) makes this especially effective for deep drainage work.
- System Carry Bag — Recommended for safe transport of locator and transmitter on the job site.
Already own a DA175? The Device Only is the right choice — the DD130 pairs directly with your existing transmitter and DD130-compatible sondes. Not sure which configuration is right for you? Call us at 1-877-866-5721 — we'll help you figure it out.
